Ethics in the Life Sciences – DRZE Expert Reports, Volume 27

Commissioned by the German Reference Centre for Ethics in the Life Sciences

Edited by Dirk Lanzerath and Roman Wagner

Bioeconomy is a form of economy that pursues a sustainable model of economic activity based on the efficient use of biological resources such as plants, animals and microorganisms. From an ethical point of view, bioeconomy is promoted and praised as a new concept of sustainable economic activity on the one hand, but criticized as a continued form of domination and exploitation of nature on the other. Against this background, this expert report examines the concept of bioeconomy from the perspectives of socio-economics, political science, legal science and economics and analyzes the ethical discourse on the subject.
