In vitro gametogenesis and genome editing
Scientists hope that the artificial generation of egg and sperm cells – so-called in vitro gametogenesis – can prevent the formation of mosaics in combination with genome editing methods since the changes are made at the very beginning of cell division in the germ cell. Furthermore, they hope to examine the cultivated precursor germ cells closely under laboratory conditions for any undesirable cell changes.
