The Board of Trustees supports the director in the fulfilment of tasks of the DRZE. Its main functions are defining, delimiting and coordinating task areas of the DRZE. It provides scientific advice to the DRZE on the areas of ethics, biosciences, medicine, information technology and library science. The Board is composed of a director as chairman, the president of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts, and up to seven more members. Of these further seven members, at least two must be affiliated to the University of Bonn and two to the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts; these members must also each be experts in an area of medicine, biology, physics, computer science, engineering, agriculture, philosophy, law, theology or library science.
