Baby without Breast Cancer Form Gene
In December 2008 the first baby was born who was tested shortly after in vitro fertilisation for a genetic form of breast cancer (BRCA1). The parents decided in favour of an in vitro fertilisation followed by PGD due to the father's family medical history. The past three generations became ill with breast cancer. The doctors generated eleven embryos in vitro. Three days after fertilisation they were examined for the risk gene BRCA1. Six embryos carried the harming breast cancer form and were eliminated, two without the precarious gene were transplanted into the uterus of which only one settled in.
